The community of Love Park, Illinois has a new museum. Earlier this year the 1,800-square-foot Lockwood Pioneer Diving Museum, opened its doors to visitors.
 
The museum is named in honor of James Lockwood, a man who built dive equipment in the late 1930s. He died in 2003 at age 92.

The collection has many items that were built by Lockwood including a 68-year-old “rebreather”. As well there are items recovered from Lake Michigan shipwrecks (collected in the 50s long  before the days of wreck conservation).  One of the most popular displays in the new museum is a two-person submarine used in the 1965 James Bond movie “Thunderball”.

Loves Park is 150 kms northwest of Chicago. The Museum is located at is at 7307 North Alpine Road, Love Park, Illinois near the Loves Park Scuba shop.
