The Victoria, British Columbia newspaper, the Times Colonist, has reported on a local company that has developed a safety device for divers. The device is called the 'Miniature Ascent Rate Alarm'.
According to the Times Colonist, the “Miniature Ascent Rate Alarm, or MARA, fits on a mask near the diver's ear and sounds a series of alarms if the diver is ascending too fast.
MARA has been created by Tim Stevens, a former military diver. He developed the device to help divers avoid experiencing decompression health issued caused by coming to the surface of the water too quickly.
